You have a unique opportunity to volunteer at our Jookender Family Camp, learning new leadership skills, while working with younger kids at the camp. Teen-volunteers assist group
leaders and teacher during the class, facilitate special camp events, and help us plan camp activities. During the first few hours of each camp, teen-volunteers receive training
and information about what it means to be a leader at camp and how to transition into their new 2.5 days roles. The training they receive is informal, and provided by the
teen-volunteers who have already served our family camps in the past. Newly recruited teen-volunteers are paired with experienced teen-volunteers, and they would never work on
their own. Teen-volunteers are always paired with an experienced peer, and they communicate with the adult staff of Jookender on a regular basis. Besides helping us at the camp,
teen-volunteers attend hands-on classes and workshops, and spend time with each other, learning, communicating, and making friendship bonds that last for years. It’s a great
experience and a great amount of responsibilities – it’s something to be proud of. By the end of the camp, each Teen-volunteer receive a letter with community hours learned. We
take into consideration time, spent at the camp, as well as preparation to it. Teen-volunteers receive 16-20 community hours on average, and some – even 30 hours per camp
participation, preparation, and after-camp support.
This is a completely free program. Teen-volunteers sleep in the bunkhouse and need to bring sleeping bags, pillows, towels, toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, shampoo, hair comb, and
other personal belongings with them.
5 meals and all-day snacks included.
