3-Week Summer Program in Maryland • University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES)
Are you a college student in STEM education or an adult professional in STEM education who loves inspiring young minds? Jookender is seeking 2 dedicated
mentors to accompany 12 high school students on an unforgettable learning journey at UMES.
Program Details
- Dates: July 13–30, 2026
- Location: UMES and surrounding agricultural sites/points of interest
- Stipend: $1,500 (paid on the last day of the program)

- Official documentation of hours:
- College students: internship of 120+ hours; case-by-case alignment with program requirements
- Professionals/Educators: fellowship or continuing education documentation for 120+ hours (adjusted to your needs)
Your Role
- Morning routine & readiness: Ensure students are up, have breakfast, and lunches are prepared/taken.
- Program escort & safety: Accompany students to UMES, field sites, and cultural points of interest.
- Educational impact: Prepare, deliver, and briefly film one STEM-based lesson connecting to agriculture.
- Student support: Help with assignments and daily routines; address minor behavioral issues and escalate major concerns to the Program PI or Jookender
Representative.
- Community building: Join a few Zoom STEM workshops during the year to build rapport.
- Residential component: Stay in the program hotel with students (accommodations provided).
Who Should Apply
- College students in STEM seeking a structured, flexible 120+ hour internship
- Adult professionals/educators in STEM and/or education seeking a fellowship or continuing education experience (120+ hours)
- Fluent English required; other languages a plus
- Authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer
- Mature, discreet, and comfortable supporting teens in a residential learning environment
Travel & Logistics
- Getting there: Mentors handle their own transportation to/from the program start and end.
- Optional: Join the student group bus from Massachusetts to Maryland (if applicable).
